Danish F4 Championship – Rd.02 Padborg Park – Race Report

Last weekend, Danish Formula 4 was back to Padborg Park for the second round of the 2021 season. For ROKiT Racer Juju Noda and the whole team, this was another opportunity to race in a circuit that we know well from testing.
Right from the beginning, Juju showed her good speed with the fastest time in the 20-minnute Free Practice. This time would be the best lap of the whole weekend and it would not be beaten in qualifying or the races.
Qualifying was affected by the presence of two long periods of yellow flags, which hampered Juju’s efforts to extract the most of the session along with slow traffic. Despite that, she still managed to take second place, one tenth away from pole position.
Race 1 was tense for the most part, with Juju putting pressure on car number 77, Emerson Fittipaldi Jr. On the last corner of the last lap, he left the door completely open and Juju went for the move on the inside. It was an audacious move and if the defending driver had been more experienced, the race would have ended without further issues. Unfortunately, when Fittipaldi Jr. saw Juju on the inside, he initially avoided her but turned into the corner too soon and they clashed. Juju crossed the line in first place.
Following a summons from the stewards, it was decided that Juju would be excluded from the race due to the action from the last lap. The stewards’ view was that as the attacking driver, she was too aggressive. This is a position we do not share, as Juju kept her line and contact could have been easily avoided by Emerson. In line with this thinking, our team has decided to appeal the decision and this matter will be resolved over the next few weeks.
This penalty meant that Juju was starting Race 2 from last place on the grid. Despite that, she showed her character by driving a steady race under heavy rain and finished 6th, gaining all positions through overtakes. She also took the fastest lap of the race, while battling other cars.
Due to the grid regulations in Danish Formula 4 and because of the penalty from Race 1, Juju had to start Race 3 once again from the back of the grid. This time on a dry track, Juju was quick to recover ground and drove as high as 6th before being involved in a clash with another car. This unfortunately damaged her front wing and finished 11th after visiting the pit-lane.

The next round will take place at Jyllandsringen on the 20th, 21st and 22nd August.
